GaitLab Coach Free vs. Premium →
Getting started · Updated October 28, 2026

Install GaitLab.
Analyze your first run.

GaitLab is a running form coaching app for iPhone and Android. Install it from your phone's app store, record or select a side-view running video, and submit it for AI analysis. You can start with free form highlights; the full report is an optional upgrade.

No account or sign-up is required. Your video is uploaded for AI analysis, so you need an internet connection to submit it.

Choose your app store ↓

1. Install the app for your phone

Open the Apple App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android. Check the listing for your device's compatibility and current local price. After installation, open GaitLab and follow the filming guidance.

2. Prepare a side-view video

Use a steady phone at hip height, with your whole body and feet visible from the side. Aim for about 30–60 seconds in good light. A treadmill makes it easier to stay in frame; outdoors, ask someone to film you from the side.

Record in the app or select an existing video. Follow the app's prompts for camera or photo access as needed. A short, clear clip is more useful than footage with feet out of frame or an obstructed view.

3. Choose your context

If an injury is relevant, select it before analysis so GaitLab can prioritize feedback around that context. You can also skip injury selection and focus on your general running form.

Selecting an injury tells the app what you want help understanding; it does not diagnose that condition. Do not run through pain just to obtain a video for analysis.

4. Review your highlights

Submit your video with an internet connection. Start by reviewing the free form highlights alongside slow-motion replay. Video angle, lighting, and visibility affect what can be observed.

Premium adds the form score, ranked findings, a 4-week drill plan, elite comparison, Ask Coach follow-ups, and a shareable analysis reel. The upgrade is optional and has no recurring payment.

What can this analysis tell you?

GaitLab offers feedback on visible running mechanics and ideas to practice. It cannot measure joint forces, diagnose pain, or confirm that you are ready to return to running after injury.

Research on structured gait retraining provides context for form coaching. It does not prove that using GaitLab prevents injuries.
